never done, it lives on through the ages.
The new officers were installed on January 5, 1923 under the watchful eye of R. A. Mathews who was installed as Master for the ensuing Masonic year. The first official Public Schools week was mentioned for the first time in the stated meeting of January 1923. It was to be in the week of March 17 of that same year.
The by-laws for the Lodge were changed in January also to read that the stated meeting was to be held on the second Friday of every month instead of the Friday after the full moon as it had been.
On Tuesday March 12, 1923 the Lodge opened on the third degree of Masonry for the purpose of burying its Secretary, Brother A. S. Kirkpatrick who had died after a sudden illness. Brother Kirkpatrick had been the Secretary in a meeting three days prior to his death and was the Secretary for Clovis Lodge 417 since its inception.
On March 24, 1923 the brethren of Clovis Lodge visited Big Creek for a "Frontier Dance and Hi-jinks" which the proceeds from the dinner and dance were to help with the formation of the "Big Creek Masonic Club House."
The Lodge was again dark for the summer, and in October's stated meeting there was discussion about paying off some of the debt that had been incurred by Clovis Lodge during the regular ways of business. A motion was made and carried by the membership to allow the Secretary and the Treasurer to pay off some of the outstanding debt without leaving the treasury short on funds.
In December a motion was made and carried to allow the Secretary to purchase new jewels and collars for the Lodge. The previous ones having been badly worn by the hands of time. |
